Dog grooming costs in the UK: what you'll pay and how often

For many breeds, grooming is a regular bill rather than an occasional treat — especially for doodles and other curly coats. Here's what to budget.

Cockapoos are typically around £49–£54 and Goldendoodles £64–£78, because curly coats can take two to three hours. In London, expect roughly 20–40% more. Nail clipping on its own is around £13–£21.

How often?
- Curly and doodle coats: every 6–8 weeks.
- Long coats: every 4–6 weeks.
- Double coats and short coats: every 8–12 weeks, mainly for de-shedding, nails and a bath.
A medium doodle groomed every seven weeks at £55 costs roughly £400 a year.
How to save
- Brush at home between visits. Matted coats take longer and often cost more to deal with.
- Book regular appointments — many groomers give priority or a lower price to regulars.
- Trim nails at home once your dog is used to it, or ask your vet nurse to show you how.
- Consider coat type before you choose a breed if budget matters.
